arizona part 1

Last year after one of my engagement sessions, I said yes to one of my travel bucket list items- Arizona! This friend of mine was getting married in Sedona and had asked me to shoot her ceremony as well. Adam and I decided to take this opportunity as a mini vacay and head to Arizona for a few days. The past couple of months have been rough at the Downs household with both of us being sick we needed this.

Our trip started off a little rough. We had an early flight which we nearly missed. We literally parked the car, rode the bus to check our bags, got through security, and RAN (almost to the wrong terminal btw) and made our gate by 5 minutes before they closed the door. Yes we were those people at the airport lol. Never again will I be late to another flight!! I could not stop sweating and to make it worse i threw up three times during the flight! Come to think of it, I was probably not 100% recovered from being sick back then.

Few hours later we finally land in Phoenix, our first stop. We picked up our rental, grabbed a bite to eat, and picked up a few things we forgot to pack - oops. Before checking in to our Airbnb we had some time to kill so we wanted to explore. I found the Japanese Friendship Garden, which pictures can't even do this place justice. It was the most peaceful, beautiful garden I have ever been to and it was just sitting right in the heart of Phoenix. We did not want to leave, especially after the rough morning I had.

Our host Darren suggested a list of various places to eat after I booked so our first food stop- La Santisima, mexican restaurant. They were well known for their tacos which we were craving. They also had a salsa bar, some really good guac, and the BEST horchata I've ever had. After checking in we had some more overdue relaxing time and may or may not have fallen asleep by the pool. We weren't as hungry for dinner but our second food stop- Z's Greek for some gyros.. which I still call Mediterranean tacos because of that stupid commercial hahaha. When we got back our host turned the pool into a huge hot tub. We also tried for an outdoor movie night but after a long day (and the time change) we finally turned in for the night. Hope you all enjoy the photos and make sure to come back for part 2!
